General
What is an EFT file?
An EFT (Electronic Fingerprint Transmission) file is a standard digital format created by the FBI for fingerprint data. NFA Suite allows you to create these files using your iPhone's camera, which you can then upload directly to the ATF eForms portal.
Is my biometric data secure?
Absolutely. NFA Suite processes all biometric data locally on your device using Apple's Neural Engine. We never upload your fingerprints to any cloud server. Your data stays yours.
How do I enable Shop Mode?
Shop Mode is designed for FFLs. To enable it, go to Settings within the app and select "Shop Mode". You will need an active subscription to access these features.
Users
How do I add a new Individual?
- Tap Users > + (add)
- Fill out the relevant demographic details
Note: Make sure that the details are accurate, as they can be used to generate EFTs later.
How do I add a new photo for an individual?
- Tap Users > Name
- You can now either select an existing photo or create a new passport-style photo using the “…” > Photo Editor
How do I take a passport-style photo?
- Create your user profile
- From the user profile (Users > Name) Click “…” > Photo Editor
- Follow the prompts to upload or take a photo.
- Position your face within the guide (you can toggle it using the toggle on the toggle switch in the camera view), or pinch-zoom your face if editing a photo
- Click “Remove Background”
Tip: Make sure all coverings on your head/face (like hats and glasses) are removed and you take your photo in good lighting.
How do I delete an Individual?
From the Users view, swipe left on the user and tap “Delete”.
How do I view my Social Security Number?
You must authenticate with FaceID (if enrolled) or a passcode.
Trusts
How do I create a trust?
- Navigate to Trusts > and tap “+” (add)
- Fill out the necessary information and save the Trust
How do I store my trust document?
- Navigate to Trusts > Trust name
- Scroll down to Trust Document
- Click “Attach Trust PDF”
How do I remove a trust document?
- Navigate to Trusts > Trust name
- Scroll down to Trust Document
- Swipe left and tap “Delete”
How do I link a trust to an Individual?
- Navigate to the Trusts view
- Pull up a trust (or create a new Trust)
- Tap “Add Member”
- Select your Individual
- Select their role in the trust (Grantor/Settlor, Trustee, or Beneficiary)
- Click Add
How do I remove a user from a trust?
- Navigate to Trusts > Trust name
- Scroll down to Members
- Swipe left and tap “Delete”
EFTs
How do I create a new personal EFT?
- From the home screen of NFA Suite, tap EFTs > Start New EFT
- You can now choose one of three ways to capture your FD-258 card:
- Select PDF: Import an existing, uncompressed PDF scan of your FD-258 taken by an FBI-certified card scanner. Note: if using your EFT with ATF eForms, you must use this option with a 500 or 1000 PPI scan.
- Select photo: Import an existing, uncompressed scan of your FD-258 taken by an FBI-certified card scanner.
- Segment prints: Drag the box over the corresponding finger in each print. Rolled prints are preferred, but flat prints will be accepted.
- Demographics: You can now either import your user details from an existing
user profile or enter the details manually.
To import, click “Load From User Profile”. This will load all of your existing users already created into the Demographics section. Please note that if a user already has an EFT attached to their profile, you will not be able to select that user until you remove the EFT from the profile (User > Select the user > EFT > Remove)
Note: You can also scan the back of a drivers license with a PDF417 barcode. - Export EFT: Once everything is filled out and reviewed, you can save and export the EFT.
Note: This function does not currently support annotating missing fingers.
How do I view an existing EFT?
- From the home screen of NFA Suite, tap EFTs > View Existing EFT
- Click Open EFT File (Center) or Open File (Top Right)
- Select an EFT file
How do I edit an EFT file?
- From the home screen of NFA Suite, tap EFTs > Edit Existing EFT
- Select the EFT and It will open the next view showing the details in the file
- Edit any field
- Export the EFT file
Note: This function does not currently support adding, removing, or replacing fingers.
Can I view an EFT not created by NFA Suite?
Yes! Any EBTS-compliant EFT file can be viewed.
Inventory
How do I add a new firearm?
- Tap Inventory > + (add)
- Fill out the applicable details, add a photo, and add new Manufacturers or Calibers from this section
- Be sure to add your stamp in this section if already approved
How do I remove a Manufacturer or Caliber?
- From the Home Screen, tap the Gear icon in the top right corner to enter Settings
- Scroll to Manage > Manufacturers/Calibers
- Swipe left on an entry to delete it
Note: You must change or delete all associated inventory items associated with a Manufacturer or Caliber before you can delete it.
How do I track approval length?
- In your inventory, navigate and tap on your firearm.
- Under the calendar section, set the Submitted and (if applicable) approved dates.
- This will track the number of days between Form 1/4 submission and approval.
How do I add a tax stamp to my item?
- Tap Inventory > Your firearm > Tax Stamp
- Click “Upload Tax Stamp”
- Upload the PDF attached to your approval email or from eForms
- Be sure to set your approval and acquired date(s) when applicable
How do I remove an item from inventory?
- You have two options: Delete or Dispose
- If deleting, swipe left on your item in the inventory view and click “Delete”
- If you sold the item, choose Dispose. You will need to set and acquisition date before the disposition field becomes available.
How do I view/restore a sold/disposed item?
- Tap Inventory > … > View Disposed Items
- Unset the “Disposed” field to return it to your inventory
How do I change an item owner?
- Tap Inventory > Your firearm
- Scroll down to “Ownership”
- Set the Ownership Type (Trust/Individual)
- Set the Owner

What types of documents can I generate?
Currently, you can generate 24-month trust extension letters and SBR/SBS configuration changes. More document types will be included in future releases.
How do I view generated documents?
Tap Resources > Generated Documents
Why is my NFA item or trust not showing up?
Make sure your trust is created in the Trusts view or NFA item is created in the Inventory view. You will also need to ensure your NFA item is associated with the proper owner (for example, you cannot generate a trust-related document for an item owned by an individual). Be sure your firearm is set to be acquired in the inventory field.
How do I add a new FFL?
- Tap Resources > My FFLs > + (add)
- You can now enter your FFL details, select the services your FFL offers, and what detail is displayed on the contact card (Phone number, email, etc)
- Be sure to link your FFL’s license and SOT, if applicable, to easily send their license to any seller.
How do I set my preferred FFL?
- Tap Resources > My FFLs > Your preferred FFL’s Name
- Scroll to the bottom and click “Set as Favorite”
How do I add a new CLEO?
- Tap Resources > My CLEOs > + (add)
- Enter your CLEO’s notification details
Shop Mode
How do I take a live scan of my customer’s prints?
- Navigate to Shop Mode > New EFT (Live Scan)
- Connect to Portaprint
- Tap “Start Live Capture”
What devices are supported for live scanning?
The Integrated Biometrics Kojak scanner is supported when connected to a Windows or Linux computer (like a Raspberry Pi) running Portaprint. No other devices are officially supported at this time.
How do I import my customer’s information from their driver’s license?
- Open Shop Mode
- Tap New EFT (Scan DL + FD-258)
- Scan the PDF417 barcode on the back of the customer’s license
How do I send my FFL and SOT to another FFL?
- Open Shop Mode
- Under Shop Tools, select “Send License (FFL/SOT)”
- Enter the email address any any additional comments (like a customer name or order number)
- Click “Send Email”
NOTE: You must upload your FFL/SOT in Shop Tools > Shop Settings > Documents
How do I configure my default message when sending my FFL/SOT?
- Open Shop Mode
- Navigate to Shop Settings > Email Configuration
- Edit the default message
Settings
How do I back up my data?
- Navigate to Settings (Gear Icon)
- Under “Advanced”, tap “Backup & Restore”
- Tap “Export Backup”
- Set the password
- Choose where to save the backup file
IMPORTANT: Do not lose the password to this file. It CANNOT be recovered. Be sure to regularly back up your data.
How do I restore my data?
- Navigate to Settings (Gear Icon)
- Under “Advanced”, tap “Backup & Restore”
- Tap “Restore Backup”
- Enter your password and restore
IMPORTANT: This will overwrite all settings and files in NFA Suite. Be careful when restoring.
